Dr. Sarah Dornhof
…it examines memory practices in Germany and Ghana in relation to Brandenburg’s involvement in the transatlantic trade and slavery around 1700, particularly in reference to Fort Groß Friedrichsburg on the west coast of Ghana. Transcultural and multidirectional approaches to memory and heritage will be analyzed through memorial sites, exhibitions and historical narratives as well as artistic and poetic engagements with this entangled history.
The PNB fellowship gives me the opportunity to work across disciplines and in different socio-cultural contexts. It allows me not only to analyze different approaches to memory and cultural heritage in Germany, Ghana and the Caribbean, but also to contribute to new forms of multidirectional memory practices. In the near future, I would like to continue my research in a way that involves curatorial and artistic collaboration.
