Dr. Emily Allegra Dreyfus

This project considers the graphic representation of the Holocaust from the perspective of the incarcerated subject via a little-known corpus of comics and drawings produced by amateur and professional artists during their internment in European camps and ghettos. Centering these artefacts in a revised account of the graphic novel, the project explores the emergence of the medium in relation to historical trauma and minority experience, with reference to the work of Will Eisner, Joe Sacco, Rutu Modan and Flix.
