Dr. Johannes Bennke
In my habilitation thesis at Filmuniversity Babelsberg I analyze forms of digital sovereignty in art and media to increase Web3 literacy on protocols, blockchain, and generative AI.
I aim to develop a better understanding of protocols that structure both technical standards and social organization. Drawing from art and media practices but also from legal, political, economic, social, and media theory, I conceptualize “protocological ecosystem” that describes the governance of common properties such as digital cultural heritage or AI generated content. The PNB fellowship allows me to relate theory and practice, write my habilitation and build the Media Lab for Digital Sovereignty.
My personal plan is to establish an international, interdisciplinary network of artists, researchers, and other stakeholders from different sectors to raise awareness of alternative ways of living together. My goal is to secure a professorship and develop the Media Lab into an institution that experiments with future economies.
